Frequently asked Questions
Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels, or FPSOs, are offshore production facilities that house both processing equipment and storage for produced hydrocarbons.
A vessel used only to store unrefined oil is referred to as a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel. Oil stored on an FSO is NEVER transferred to a production unit, but a tanker.
The difference between these new frontiers for deep water oil drilling is that the FPSO is directly connected to the oil drilling while the FSO is only concerned with storage.
An FLNG is a Floating Liquid Natural Gas vessel just like an FPSO only that an FLNG is used for natural gas.
A Shuttle Tanker is a specialized ship designed to transport oil from Offshore oil fields to onshore refineries. Shuttle Tankers are often used as alternatives to pipelines in harsh climates, remote locations or deep water.
